Rihanna Drops Trailer For Superbowl Halftime Performance
We have all seen the jokes online referencing the 2023 Superbowl as a "football game during a Rihanna concert," but after the singer's latest post, it seems like this is no longer a laughing matter.
With Superbowl LVII less than a month away, Rihanna is digging deep into her bag of tricks to get fans excited. In the 30-second trailer, the singer's silhouette appears in a large, empty room. As she begins to walk forward, we hear commentary from fans and broadcasters all with the same theme: Rihanna where have you been? "It's been 2,190 days," one voice says. Another added, "It's been six years since the nine-time Grammy-winner dropped an album."
The spotlight then shines on the singer while her 2016 track Needed Me plays in the background.
But her Superbowl rollout doesn't end there. The mogul also released a limited Savage X Fenty Game Day collection for the performance. The collection includes jerseys, hoodies and beanies that rep team Fenty. There's even a t-shirt that reads, "Rihanna concert interrupted by a football game, weird but whatever."
Rihanna Announcing Her Return
Rihanna announced she was headlining the halftime show in September. Her announcement itself broke the internet. She simply posted on Instagram an image of her hand holding a football with the caption of just a period. Fans lost their collective mind in the comments as this performance would mark the return of the singer after taking a six-year hiatus from music.
The announcement shocked fans mainly because many didn't think she would return to music since she is a new mother. The singer gave birth to her first son with boyfriend, A$AP Rocky in May.
Shortly after her Superbowl announcement, Rihanna released her first single since her 2016 album ANTI, Lift ME Up, in October.
You can catch Rihanna at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show on Sunday, Feb. 12.
