NYPD Releases Statement About False Diddy Criminal Investigation
The NYPD has cleared up any claims of a criminal investigation surrounding Sean "Diddy" Combs.
In a report originally posted by TMZ, a law enforcement source made claims that Diddy was the subject of a secret NYPD investigation. The police department made a statement Friday morning to deny those claims.
"Yesterday, a member of the NYPD’s public information office erroneously told a reporter about the apparent existence of an active case file containing the name 'Sean Combs,'" the statement read. "There is no such investigation, at present. Further, the release of such information is not consistent with the internal policies of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information. The NYPD always treats allegations of sexual assault and rape extremely seriously, and urges anyone who has been a victim to file a police report so that support and services can be offered to survivors and a comprehensive investigation can be conducted."
In the original report, the source told the outlet that Diddy's investigation was focused on sexual assault. The claims came shortly after it was revealed that singer and former partner to Diddy, Cassie, filed a $30 million case against him for rape, abuse and sex trafficking. In a statement attached to the filing she opened up about choosing to file the suit now.
“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships," it read.
