Janet Jackson’s Nephew Feels Her Performances Are Degrading To Women
As fans of Janet Jackson, we love everything about her, especially when it comes to her jaw-dropping performances. However, there is one person who isn't impressed by them.
TJ Jackson, Janet’s nephew, believes that her performances are oversexualized and degrading to women. In a now restricted social media post, a fan posted a video of the singer performing “Would You Mind”, when TJ gave his opinion on it.
“I never liked when she did this in concerts either. I don’t like when females are overly sexualized in art…it degrades and objectifies women in a way that’s not healthy. I prefer the “That’s The Way Love Goes” Janet,” he wrote in the comment section.
His point of view sparked a heated debate on social media which garnered mixed reviews. One fan asked TJ if he felt awkward to see his relatives perform in a manner like that.
“Nah, I didn’t like it,” he responded. “It just diminishes her amazing talent. But would love to hear your disagreement. #respect.”
Fans also called him a hypocrite for not feeling the same about his uncle, the late Michael Jackson.
“My aunt got a lot dirtier than my uncle..lol but no help needed. :) I’ve traveled and seen how black women are treated better outside the states. They are truly and rightfully celebrated more and I believe it has a lot to do with how we allow ourselves to be projected here,” he said.
TJ added, “It’s unfair but men aren’t as objectified as women. Nevertheless to me it diminishes it and leads to other stereotypes. Vulgarity is not art to me…it’s more shock and awe and can lead to perceptions, and even worse, role models that don’t help our advancement.”
