Beyoncé's Renaissance Film Breaks Record
Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé just released last week and the Beyhive has already broken a record by seeing the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film brought in the biggest December opening in two decades during its opening weekend in North America. It grossed $21 million domestically, which was “better-than-expected." Additionally, the film scored a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with raving reviews from critics.
“On behalf of AMC Theatres Distribution and the entire theatrical industry, we thank Beyoncé for bringing this incredible film directly to her fans,” said AMC Theatres executive vice president of worldwide programming, Elizabeth Frank, in a statement. “To see it resonate with fans and with film critics on a weekend that many in the industry typically neglect is a testament to her immense talent, not just as a performer, but as a producer and director.”
Beyoncé's film is currently the No. 1 movie in the United States. Box office org EntTelligence reports that 900,000 people bought tickets for the movie. It debuted in 2,539 theaters in North America, and earned $6.4 million from 94 international territories. Over 70 percent of ticket holders were female with 52 percent of that being Black women.
